Accessibility Statement

Published: August 2026 · TherapTea is a university student project.

Our commitment

TherapTea is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We actively work to align this site with standard accessibility guidelines to ensure a welcoming experience for everyone.

This website is designed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard as part of the UK Web Accessibility guidelines for public sector and educational resources.

Compliance status

This website is fully compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Every page has been manually audited and refined to meet these guidelines.

Accessibility features on TherapTea

To ensure the site is usable by individuals with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities, we have built the following features directly into our codebase:

  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements (such as links and buttons) can be reached and activated using a keyboard. We use explicit, highly-visible focus indicators (outline borders) so you can track where you are on the page.
  • Skip to Content Link: A skip navigation link is present at the very top of every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to skip the header nav directly to the main content.
  • Color Contrast: All text and interactive controls meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, and 3:1 for large graphical elements). The text colour of mood buttons is set to dark brown on the sage green background to ensure maximum legibility.
  • Semantic HTML Hierarchy: Every page is built with valid HTML5 elements (such as <header>, <main>, <footer>, and <nav>) and follows a strict logical heading hierarchy (H1 followed by H2, then H3) for ease of screen reader outline parsing.
  • No Tracking or Autoplay: The site contains no flashing content, autoplaying media, or intrusive modals that could trigger adverse cognitive or physical reactions.
  • Screen Reader Optimization: Image placeholders and decorative graphics are either marked as decorative with empty alt text (alt="") or contain descriptive alternative text where they convey meaningful concepts to the user.
  • Responsive Scaling: The layout behaves predictably when zoomed up to 200%. It is fully responsive and supports narrow viewports down to 320px without horizontal scrolling or text clipping.

Non-accessible content

We are not aware of any specific non-accessible content on this site. However, some aspects of third-party assets are beyond our direct control:

  • Google Fonts (third-party delivery) may present minor discrepancies in font rendering depending on specific operating systems and screen magnifier software.

Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared on 17 August 2026. The website was tested using manual keyboard checks, browser developer tools, and automated accessibility checkers (such as WAVE and Lighthouse) during the design and content production phases.

Feedback and contact information

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of TherapTea. If you encounter accessibility barriers or need information on this website in a different format, please contact us through the university's portfolio feedback channels. We aim to respond to all feedback within 5 working days.
