Good days deserve a little ritual too. Sit with this one.

Kandy — The Traditional Hearth

Kandy is the historic heartland where Ceylon tea first began, surrounding our ancient royal capital. With just the right balance of sun and rain, Kandy tea is smooth, bright, and incredibly well-rounded. In Sri Lanka, this is the traditional cup we brew to welcome guests into our homes.

The Science Behind the Brew

Good days are meant to be shared. I love brewing a spiced pot of Kandy to share with friends, or simply to take a moment to be grateful for the good energy around us.

Ingredients

1 tsp well-rounded Kandy black tea
220ml fresh spring water at 95°C
1 slice of fresh ginger root or 1 cardamom pod

Brewing Guide

1

Bring water to 95°C. Place your ginger slice or cardamom pod at the bottom of your favorite mug.

2

Add the Kandy tea leaves to your teapot, pour the water over them, and cover.

3

Steep for 2 minutes, letting the warm spices slowly release their essential oils.

4

Strain the bright copper liquor directly over the ginger slice in your mug and enjoy.

The Mindful Ritual

The Sabhava (Gratitude & Connection)

A somatic practice to ground your nervous system while the warm tea steeps and cools.

Step 1

Pour your Kandy tea, and notice the bright copper-red colour. If someone is nearby, offer them a cup, or take a moment to appreciate the space you're in.

Step 2

While holding the warm cup, silently name one small thing that went well today, or one person you're glad to have in your life.

Step 3

Sip with a smile, letting the smooth, balanced taste settle in your mouth, allowing yourself to fully inhabit this good moment.
